VIRGINIA BEACH - Peggy Trotter lived to the age of 88 1/2. She was raised on Redgate Avenue and graduated from Maury High School, Class of 1939. She attended James Madison College in Harrisonburg, Va.

Peggy lived through the Great Depression working a variety of jobs, including secretary, chicken wrangler, and shoe model. She went into World War II as a new bride and continued for the next 30 years traveling with her husband Jesse Jackson Trotter Sr. from post to post. She raised three children all over the world. Once retired, they settled in Virginia Beach where both families called home. Although officially retired, she took on the job of raising grandchildren, grandnieces and grandnephews. She kept a great pride in her TAGHeuer Replica family and valued family and friends just as any Southern lady should. In later years, she continued to be a force in her family as they scattered to follow their own lives. They always returned to "Peg-leg" for a dose of love, a warm embrace and plenty of laughter.

Peggy is survived by her three children: Jesse Jackson Trotter Jr. of Crofton, Md., Denise Frances Blackerby of Virginia Beach and Deborah Campbell Trotter of Virginia Beach. Her grandchildren are Jesse Jackson Trotter III, wife Ali and great-granddaughters, Mackenzie, Campbell and Kaden of Philadelphia; Michael Patrick Gregory, wife Wendy and great-grandson Carson of Anderson, S.C., Richard Victor Gregory III, wife Melissa and great-grandson Caden of Anderson, S.C., and granddaughter, Chelsea Meredith Blackerby of Clemson, S.C.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, by the Rev. Robert Pittman. Online condolences may be made to the family at hdoliver.com.
